Welcome to the "Innovation for Sustainable Development Debate"
8 May through 8 June 2007.
Sponsored by Tourism Ventures 21 and hosted by TravelMole.com - the online
community with over 450,000 travel industry professional subscribers.
Act Now to have YOUR say!
In 2007, the travel and tourism industry faces its biggest set of challenges
since a holiday meant a day off work. The wrong choices made now could mean
that our industry is decimated and that its opportunities for generating
global peace and wealth are lost. Even worse, a wrong direction now taken
may cause unsustainable tourism to ruin the environment for our coming
generations.

2001 per day of income without huge starting capital 29 January, 2010
Hello!
You may probably be very curious to know how one can manage to receive high yields on investments.
There is no initial capital needed.
You may commense earning with a sum that usually goes
on daily food, that's 20-100 dollars.
I have been participating in one company's work for several years,
and I'm ready to let you know my secrets at my blog.
Please visit my pages and send me private message to get the info.
P.S. I make 1000-2000 per day now.

Marketing a Perfect Location that No One Knows About 30 October, 2009
| A friend of mine has 6 beachfront cottages with views across Waratah Bay to Wilson's Promontory. They are stunning self contained cottages, lots of space, 2 1/2 hours from Melboune (about equal to Apollo Bay), they've won awards and even been featured on Getaway years ago. The place is called Bear Gully Coastal Cottages because their are a lot of koala bears in the reserve leading to their property.

Jill recently went to a travel show in Sydney to try to attract agents, but almost none new the region: Gippsland or Prom Country. I think that anyone who was lucky enough to find Bear Gully would consider it an unforgetable destination - yet how to get them.

Sure, you can buy ads in exclusive travel magazines, and maybe that is the only option for unusual luxury accommodation - but shouldn't there be other options? They only have 6 cottages, there is a limit to what they can spend.

Suggestions would be appreciated. I'm sure there are a lot of similar properties in Australia.

Thanks, Mark
Web Reservation Systems |

Would Like To Get Your Opinion!! 20 July, 2007
Hello
Fellow Travelers,
I just
launched a new adventure travel website and would love to get your thoughts!:
http://www.voyagetrek.com
You can
search through thousands of tour operators who offer guided tours and
adventures such as rafting, fishing, trekking, rock climbing, heli-skiing, kayaking,
and other fun trips. The top listings
will all be much more detailed in a few months when hundreds or thousands of
tour operators register and submit their own information about their company
and tours. And, well be launching a
community area shortly where you can tell other adventure travelers about
yourself and meet like-minded folks.
What do you
think? Id love to get your thoughts on
the site and ideas to make it better.
Thanks!
Cliff

Growth is a long term goal, one of many 08 May, 2007
| Tourism in any nation cannot go unfettered, the potential ramifications of the industry are too large. In order to maximise the positive elements of tourism growth should be an element of larger long term tourism plans, not a solitary aim. By aiming solely for growth nations are not aiming for sustainability. |

global warming 20 February, 2008
1) Do you think tourists would be prepared to pay higher prices to travel to their destinations because of the new taxes being put on aircraft?
2) Do you think the government is doing enough to stop global warming from happening?
3) From reading about global warming articles on the internet most people say that global warming happens because of deforestation do you agree with that statement?
4) Would hurricanes and flooding in tourist destinations caused by global warming put you off going there?
5) What do you think are people's attitudes to global warming? Do you think they would be prepared to take less flights or travel by car to try to reduce their carbon emissions?
if anyone would be able to respond to this it would be very appreciated as it will help me with a report i am doing in travel and tourism. |

Travel Less, Stay Longer and Pin a Leaf 07 May, 2007
I love the quote "Tourism is like fire. You can cook your dinner on it but if you are not careful it will burn your house down". In this case, the risk to our house is a very real risk of consumer backlash against an industry not seen as taking the global warming threat seriously.
In the case of global warming I think that "denial" is the worst possible response the tourism industry can adopt (air travel isn't really bad at all), followed closely by "its not our problem" and platitudes like"we take this very seriously", whilst all the while ignoring any real action.
Rather, I would like to see the tourism industry take THE leadership role amongst all industry sectors, by spelling out the issues clearly and proposing very clear, visible and meaningful actions.
Air travel stands out as the "elephant in the room" when it comes to global warming, so this becomes a key area of focus. I admire the courage of people like Mike Ellingham and Tony Wheeler in taking issues like this on. Here are two people who have done so much to open the world up to travel, now taking the difficult position of arguing that more is not better any more. They both see the tremendous value tourism can have but are worried about the consequences for the global environment if we continue the path we are on now.
The message they are pushing now is that we should make fewer trips by air (travel domestically or internationally by rail or bus etc.) and plan on staying longer in the destinations we travel to. It is a theme the IFC has picked up on with their Stay Another Day initiative being pioted in the Mekong. Its an attempt at a win-win-win outome for all key stakeholders.....the global environment, travellers and the local community. In this initiative, they are working with local NGOs and development agncies to bring loacl community initiatives into the tourism offering for the destination. This encourages travellers to stay longer (less of the 1-2 day see the temples and go mentality) and in the process start to really engage with the local people. The impact on travellers has been great, and outcomes for the destination have also been very positive. They stay longer, spend more and ...over time at least...we hope will travel less frequently.
Another really great initiative came from a group of tour operators attending the Worldhotel-link global workshop in Siem Reap in March. Attendees from Swaziland, Zanzibar, Kenya, Samoa, Fiji and Lebanon were discussing what they could do (as individuals) to change their way of living and demonstrate their commitment to saving the environment. All felt the first step was a personal commitment, and they came up with the idea of "pinning a leaf" on their shirt or blouse to show they had turned over a new leaf. A new web site for Pinaleaf has since been launched and already they have attracted media interest and a good following in 40 countries. Discussions are underway with groups like the Earth Day Network (EDN) to see if they can extend this idea further. This is an initiative from the tourism industry.... a grassroots one from mostly developing countries.... which shows real concern and a willingness to act.
I'd strongly recommend the industry get behind initiatives like these..

A missed opportunity 10 May, 2007
Tourism is now our biggest industry. Excluding homes, it's probably also our biggest builder.
Why do we waste this opportunity by building functional units all over the world that add nothing to our heritage?
Although heritage sites attract hotels and other accommodations, they appear like warts on beautiful faces, in particular tourist-class accommodation.
Why don't destinations use the competition system to obtain truly attractive architecture that future generations can enjoy? |
