Reuters and other news sources report that an American/US Airways merger deal could come in the next two weeks.
Reuters cited several unidentified sources which said the two giants are now negotiating the final price tag and management layout. At issue is how equity of the merged company would be divided between US Airways and AMR creditors. Also at issue is management structure of the final, mega airline—which would be one of the largest in the world.
The merger of the two airlines would most likely result in higher airfares and less competition for consumers but it would also infuse American's routes and staff with new money and muscle.
