This years VisitScotland Expo is to be held in Aberdeen 16th April and will showcase 280 exhibitors demonstrating the best of Scotlandââ¬â¢s products. Buyers are expected from 24 countries in Europe, North America, Latin America, Australasia, Asia and the UK.
The focus on this yearââ¬â¢s expo ââ¬ÅâHomecoming Scotland 2009ââ¬~ is thought to provide an ideal launch pad to celebrate 2009 as the 250th anniversary of Robert Burnsââ¬â¢ birth. And Aberdeen an ideal venue in the light of its dramatic tourism growth of 37%, placing it in the UK top 20 for the first time.
Scotland has announced its intention to grow its tourism by 50% and to concentrate on sustainability ââ¬' targeting 100% of its tourism businesses to achieve green certification. Both targets are scheduled to be met by 2015.
VisitScotland is intent on making the expo as green as possible. Green and sustainable tourism businesses will be highlighted, environmentally aware FAM trips will be provided, recycling and re-using will be employed wherever possible; group travel will be encouraged to minimise carbon footprints. Moreover, food products at Expo will be sourced locally and organically, reducing food miles and promoting quality ingredients.
