SeaFrance sales chief achieves milestone

SeaFrance sales director Bill Laidlaw has celebrated his 35th year in the ferry industry, having spent over 40 years in shipping.

He helped set up the UK arm of the French ferry operator which has grown from one member of staff to almost 200 operating a fleet of six ships on the Dover-Calais route.

Laidlawââ¬â¢s career began working as an office boy for P&O Ferries. He went on to work on a number of high profile shipping projects, including setting up a fast ferry service for Qatar Shipping between Doha, Bahrain and Dubai.

He worked for ten years as managing director of Sealink Newhaven-Dieppe Ferries before setting up SeaFrance in in UK 1995 when Newhaven-Dieppe Ferries withdrew from the Sealink British Ferries pool.

Laidlaw said: "Over the years Iââ¬â¢ve seen fantastic growth in the ferry market and the development of new ships which has lifted the industry way beyond anybodyââ¬â¢s expectations."
