Sabre has clinched an early sign up to the environmentally conscious version of its online corporate booking solution called Get There Green.
The GDS provider is trumpeting the decision by US media company Discovery Communications to use the product in a bid to publicise the green tool, which it launched at the end of last year.
The original Get There was used last year by more than 3,000 companies, including more than 50% of the Fortune 200, to book more than $9 billion worth of travel.
Now Get There Green will do all the whizz-bangery of the original technology but will allow companies to integrate their carbon emission data, prompt employees to use travel suppliers that they have designated green, suggest more environmentally friendly options such as car share and rail and advise on carbon footprints during the booking process.
Discovery will roll out the use of the product in phases.
Its director of travel services Yukari Sison said: ââ¬ÅâWeââ¬â¢re using the messaging capabilities to provide travellers with localised information on their destination, such as local rail transportation options and restaurants with organic menus. Messaging also asks our travellers to pause to consider sharing a rental car with a colleague making the same trip, and perhaps getting a hybrid vehicle.ââ¬~
GetThere Green is available to GetThere users on any GDS.
