Silverjet hopes revived

Reports remain unconfirmed over whether Dubai-based proposed premium airline Arabjet will ride to the rescue of failed all-business carrier Silverjet.

Arabjet chief executive officer Mohammed el-Shanti has admitted that his company is ââ¬Åâœinterested in Silverjetââ¬â¢s survivalââ¬~ having had discussions with the Silverjet administrators Begbies Traynor but will not confirm that a bid has been made.

Following its failure to receive funding under a deal agreed with Viceroy Holdings, Silverjet has had a bumpy ride to grounding. Begbies Traynor saw a possible last minute reprieve last week when Irish firm Kingplace looked set to save the day. But talks collapsed and the carrier looked set for certain demise.

Arabjetââ¬â¢s website says it plans to launch its own services next year, specifically marketing in the Middle East.

Silverjet operated services to Newark airport and to Dubai from its base at London Luton Airport until May 30.
