Center Parc EcoTourism Development Proposed for Suriname, Investors Sought

A group of Dutch and global investors are teaming up with the international holiday park operator Center Parcs to develop an ecotourism resort in Suriname.

The Suriname Conservation Foundation and Merrill Lynch Global Philanthropy Group orchestrated the plan and Center Parcs provided the design and masterplan.

Further investors are being sought.

Suriname is set in a natural tropical wilderness, a combination of the Caribbean and South America. Rivers provide Surinameââ¬â¢s highways into the rainforest and jungles of the interior, which remain virtually untouched by man, Suriname, it is said, is waiting to be explored. Clearly by water. Currently, there is little tourism infrastructure.

The development, which will be based close to Parimaribo, the countryââ¬â¢s capital, is to include rainforest experiences, accommodation designed along local lines, shops for local specialities and educational opportunities.

Center Parcs currently operate 21 up market holiday villages in UK (4), Holland (8), Belgium (2), France (3) and Germany (4).
