15% of British people have never been abroad on holiday

A new survey in the UK says that some 15% of British people have never been abroad on holiday!

According to research commissioned by SainsburyÃ¢â¬â¢s Travel Insurance, 6.96 million Brits have only ever taken their holidays on home shores and this tendency rises with age, with 21% of the 65+ market being homebirds.

Geographically, the surveyÃ¢â¬â¢s statistics revealed that you are more likely to stay in Blighty to take your hols if you are from the East Midlands and Anglia where some 23% of the population had never flown to foreign climes. The people of Yorkshire and Humberside were next on the table of stay-at-homes, with 17% saying they had never left the UK.

West Midlanders were the most likely to have jetted off Ã¢â¬' just 9% of adults had never travelled abroad Ã¢â¬' and Londoners were the next least likely not to have ventured abroad Ã¢â¬' 11% only had remained in the UK all their lives.

The retailer commissioned the survey to highlight the need for travel insurance even when travelling in the UK, citing delays, lost or stolen baggage and illness relocation costs as reasons to take cover.
