Leger buys Consort

Leger Holidays has purchased rival European coach operator Consort Travel for an undisclosed sum.

Leger will retain the Consort brand, which sells direct through national newspaper advertising and carries 6,000 holidaymakers a year. It is particularly strong in Croatia and Italy.

Both companies are based in South Yorkshire and their headquarters are only three miles apart. The plan will be to integrate both offices into Legerââ¬â¢s Canklow Meadows HQ.

Leger employs 120 staff and Consort 12. A spokesman said there are no plans to make changes to the workforce of either company, or the existing management structures of the businesses.

Leger marketing director Huw Williams said there are many similarities between the two businesses, which are both around 25 years old.

"This represents the ideal scenario whereby we can expand our market share significantly while minimising the risk of losing any of our core business focus," he said.

Leger carries around 75,000 holidaymakers each year.
