US Airlines Are Shifting Their Focus To The International Markets For Cargo

International cargo grew 5.3 percent in July and was up 6 percent in the seven months to the start of the year. US airlines are reaping the rewards due to shifting their focus to more international operations.

The gain in July includes a 9.1 percent increase in Latin American cargo traffic for US airlines; the strongest increase in 18 months and a 68 percent in trans Atlantic trade.

Domestic air too showed small signs of recovery with business flat in July compare dot the same time last year after two straight months of decline.

Domestic traffic remains down 0.9 percent of the first seven months of 2008 compared t the same seven-month period a year ago from January to July.
