P&O's 2010 world cruises generate Ã&#pound;14m in just one day

P&O Cruises received bookings worth just under Ã&#pound;14 million in just one day when it put its 2010 full world voyages up for sale last week.

On Monday September 15, the first day of sales, it sold the cruises to almost 1,000 people at an average price of Ã&#pound;14,000 per person.

P&O Cruises managing director Nigel Esdale said: "In a time of economic instability, and when everyday budgets are being tightened, it is remarkable how resilient the cruise market can be."

The 2010 brochure contains the first full circumnavigation of Arcadia and a connoisseur voyage aimed at more experienced cruisers on Aurora.

Both itineraries will depart from Southampton in January 2010.

"Whilst world voyages do attract a number of passengers new to cruising, they are of particular appeal to our more experienced clients who have the time and inclination to be away for long periods of time,ââ¬~ said Esdale.

ââ¬ÅâœThis market is, perhaps, showing to be more immune to the current economic climate, and explains why our on sale date for this brochure went with such success.ââ¬~
