The Locks and Bridges of the Rhone, Saone

With the Rhone Saone flowing from the Alps to the sea, it is inevitable that as we make our way up these powerful French rivers that we had to navigate some lock and believe me they are pretty tight ââ¬' seventeen of them in all.

[Pictured right - one of the seventeen locks the River Royale went through on its journey up the Rhone Saone rivers]

The navigational expertise of the Captain was demonstrated though when we didnââ¬â¢t bump once when entering or leaving a single lock!

[Pictured below - one of the hundreds of bridges the River Royale squeezed under on in its journey up the Rhone Saone rivers]

What was rather more surprising was that we only just appeared to squeeze under some of the hundreds of bridges we went under, with the equipment on the deck being lowered and even the bridge electronically controlled to go up and down!
