Flights to Amsterdam from Liverpool are to be run by KLM for the first time in 70 years.
KLM cityhopper is to start three flights a day using 80-seat Fokker 70s next summer.
The move marks the airlineââ¬â¢s return to Liverpool after flights were discontinued with the outbreak of World War 2.
Seats for the new service go on sale from tomorrow (Tuesday).
The launch of the Liverpool service will bring the total of UK airports served by the airline to 15.
The new flights will connect Liverpool John Lennon Airport to KLMââ¬â¢s hub at Amsterdam Airport Schiphol
The Dutch airline said the decision to reintroduce services from Liverpool follows extensive research across its UK passenger base and with key travel trade partners.
The research showed a growing demand from businesses in the North West of the UK for expansion to Liverpool as well as from the large student population.
Senior vice-president network Pieter Elbers said: ââ¬ÅâWe are delighted to be renewing our partnership with Liverpool after such a long absence.
ââ¬ÅâBy adding Liverpool to our network KLM has further strengthened its position in the UK market, one of the most important markets in the extensive network of KLM.ââ¬~
The UK accounts for 17% of KLMââ¬â¢s worldwide traffic.
