KLM returns to Liverpool

Flights to Amsterdam from Liverpool are to be run by KLM for the first time in 70 years.

KLM cityhopper is to start three flights a day using 80-seat Fokker 70s next summer.

The move marks the airlineÃ¢â¬â¢s return to Liverpool after flights were discontinued with the outbreak of World War 2.

Seats for the new service go on sale from tomorrow (Tuesday).

The launch of the Liverpool service will bring the total of UK airports served by the airline to 15.

The new flights will connect Liverpool John Lennon Airport to KLMÃ¢â¬â¢s hub at Amsterdam Airport Schiphol

The Dutch airline said the decision to reintroduce services from Liverpool follows extensive research across its UK passenger base and with key travel trade partners.

The research showed a growing demand from businesses in the North West of the UK for expansion to Liverpool as well as from the large student population.

The UK accounts for 17% of KLMÃ¢â¬â¢s worldwide traffic.
