New Lufthansa brand launching

Lufthansa is to launch its new six-aircraft brand Lufthansa Italia today.

The airline will connect major European hubs to northern Italy from February including a non-stop four times daily service from London-Heathrow to Milan Malpensa, which starts at the end of March. The airline will apply for an Italian Air Operator Certificate at the start of 2009.

Lufthansa chief executive officer and chairman Wolfgang Mayrhuber said: ââ¬ÅâœLufthansa Italia will position us in an important market characterised by strong demand, which also holds out opportunities for buoyant growth in the future. We will be offering our customers an extensive route network of flights from major European cities to northern Italy, an area which ranks amongst Europeââ¬â¢s economically most important and strongest regions.ââ¬~

Flights from Barcelona and Paris Charles de Gaulle to Malpensa will start February 2 and flights from Brussels, Budapest, Bucharest and Madrid will be added to the timetable a month on. The start of the summer 2009 timetable at the end of March will see flights operating from Heathrow and Lisbon to Milan.
