Just days after taking the helm at TMS Asia-Pacific, newly appointed CEO Andrew Chan has moved to increase the recruitment specialistââ¬â¢s operation in Western Australia.
Announcing the appointment of Sharon Moss and Scott Worgan to manage a dedicated WA desk Mr Chan said that while WA was feeling the effects of the global crisis, the regionââ¬â¢s hospitality and travel industry continued to offer potential for the company.
ââ¬ÅâThe WA industry has been experiencing a shortfall of skilled candidates for several years now, exacerbated in part by the stateââ¬â¢s mineral boom,ââ¬~ he said.
ââ¬ÅâThis is particularly the case in regional WA where the tourism industry continues to struggle to find qualified staff."
ââ¬ÅâBut with the stateââ¬â¢s resource sector starting to feel the effects of the global recession and employersââ¬â¢ belts beginning to tighten, many people who left the travel industry to take on new roles with companies involved in the resource boom are now starting to filter back.ââ¬~
ââ¬ÅâWeââ¬â¢re seeing slow growth in both the number of employers looking to recruit short term staff and the number of available candidates, many of them overseas-based Australians heading back home for the summer months."
ââ¬ÅâAnd if the British press is anything to go by, we can expect to see a significant increase in these numbers with the news that record numbers of Australians are leaving the UK to find better job opportunities back home.ââ¬~
Many of these, he said, have good experience working in the European hospitality and travel sector.
Ms Moss will manage temporary/contract portfolio activity while Mr Worgan will focus on permanent recruitment.
