Royal Caribbean drops fuel supplement

Fuel supplements have been dropped by Royal Caribbean Cruises across it three brands for 2009 sailings.

Any bookings made from today (Monday) will not carry a supplement for departures from January 1.

The company is to refund any fuel supplement on existing bookings for next year.

Passengers who have paid in full will have the supplement refunded in the form of an onboard credit during their sailing.

Those with existing bookings but are not yet paid in full will have the supplement removed from their outstanding balance.

The suspension of fuel supplements covers Royal Caribbean International, Celebrity Cruises and Azamara Cruises worldwide.

The decision reflects the recently sustained lower price of fuel, the company said.

But it said it reserved the right to reinstate fuel supplement charges if the price of West Texas Intermediate fuel exceeds $65 per barrel, on quarterly milestone dates released in October.

The company announced then that no fuel supplement would be charged for new bookings made on or after November 10 for sailings departing on or after January 1, 2010, unless there is an upturn in fuel prices.
