Perhpas it's the 60th anniversary as more visitors came to Israel in 2008 than in any year since the independent State of Israel was founded in 1948. "This is the first time ever more than 3 million tourists came to Israel in a single year," says Arie Sommer, Israel's Tourism Commissioner for North and South America, "and this underscores Israel's attractiveness to travelers of all nationalities, faiths, ethnic backgrounds and interests."
The United States is Israel's number-one source of tourism, with the United Kingdom, Russia and France the runners-up. "Close to three-quarters of a million North Americans visited Israel in 2008 - also a record," added Sommer.

Israel deserves to enjoy a high number of tourists. It is a wonderful country, and the people of Israel are amazing! This is one of those destinations where you are constantly facing history and magic. The history is of course documented in the Bible, the magic is simply all around you. The people and the scenery are diverse and can fill the wishes of any visitor with any taste and budget. Ignore the news, ignore the fear, go to Israel! You'll never forget it.
