Yacht line claims rising passenger numbers

Windstar Cruises carried 60% more passengers last year than in 2007, with a 55% rise in year-on-year revenues.

The company, which operates a three-ship fleet of deluxe motor sailing yachts, did not give figures to support the percentage rises.

But Windstar also claimed that it was 25% ahead for 2009 revenue against this time last year for 2008.

Bill Ellerington, business development director of The Cruise Portfolio, which handles UK sales for the line, said: "We’re really pleased with the figures for 2008.

"The positive figures already apparent for the start of 2009 also give cause for optimism for the forthcoming year."

The company is relaunching its ‘Signature Collection’ series, which sees guest lecturers sail on selected cruises, as well as introducing Venice departures and increasing the number of Croatian port visits.
