Ryanair vows to continue fight against screenscraper websites

Ryanair has vowed to continue its fight against screenscraper websites despite losing a case against Atrapalo.

The airline said it will appeal against last weekââ¬â¢s decision in favour of the Spanish travel website, and against any further rulings in favour of screenscraping.

Chief executive Michael Oââ¬â¢Leary said: ââ¬ÅâœWe have provided the courts with documentary evidence of this unauthorised, ticket-tout scam being perpetrated on consumers by these screenscraper websites.

ââ¬ÅâœWe do not believe that a court should put the interests of these unauthorised sites ahead of the interests of the consumers who have been exposed to hidden mark ups and over-charged by these screenscraper/ticket-tout websites.

ââ¬ÅâœWe hope that the decision of the court today will prevent the mis-selling of Ryanairââ¬â¢s tickets and the unauthorised sales of Ryanairââ¬â¢s seats by E-dreams.

"Our case has successfully been put before the EU and we will appeal any Spanish court decision which fails to stop the unauthorised activities of these overcharging ticket-tout sites.ââ¬~

  • Jetwash says Yes!

Yup, say what you like. But Mr O'Leary makes money, his airline makes money, passengers still fly with him (they would probably fly with Aer Linctus if he was to run it) He employs lots of people and opens up new routes. Can't find much to criticise there.... or dodgy..

  • dodgy RyanAir

Well, it looks that now the Spanish court is doing something against this dodgy airline. When are Ireland and UK going to act? Everybody knows about the abuses on charges to passengers, on working conditions of the staff (because of the weak Irish law and the inexistance unions' pressure), the silly excuses on delays and cancellations just to save money,'¦ Is anyone going to do anything about?!?

  • The Enemy onboard.

O'Leary's latest wheeze is to 'fine' customers who have the temerity to take two bags on board. How will the airports who subsidise Ryanair take to this disincentive to shop? How long can a business that treats its customers as the enemy survive?

  • Stuff Your Airline

Mr O`Leary: You have the cheek to call travel agents "ticket touts" Yet you have the nerve to cheat passengers in your misleading advertisments. Why travel agents would want to sell you anyway is beyond belief. I stopped selling your junk two years ago.

  • Love It!

Ryanair having a go at websites which have "hidden" mark ups... I wish Michael O'Leary would develop a sense of irony.
