More than a quarter (27%) plan to spend as much as usual on their holidays in 2009 and only one per cent will not go on any weekend breaks this year.

The survey which was answered by 3,489 users in December 2008 and January 2009.

Travellers in other parts of Europe are also tightening their belts with many believing the best way to save is by planning ahead to find the best deals.

Most travellers said they will compare all the available offers to lower their holiday costs.

Italians are on the look out for the best bargain: 42% compare all the offers available to reduce their holiday expenses.

  • It's all guesswork

All these surveys really mean nothing. If it was carried out again right now, the results would be different again. You might as well do a survey on what people thing about surveys. No one really knows yet how 2009 will pan out. Confidence is what's missing right now but when the banks start lending again,(and they will) things will start to look up quite quickly (just look at history)
