Island Cruises' sales manager joins Cadogan

Former Island Cruises national sales manager Craig Upshall has joined tailormade specialist operator Cadogan.

He has become head of sales following the internal promotion of Jane Wilkinson to head of marketing.

Upshall will be responsible for developing sales strategies and plans to maximise sales through travel agents.

He will also lead the sales team in a number of new initiatives - closed user groups, leisure sales, and the development of sales agents overseas.

  • "Cut back a little -Tough Decisions"

Quote from a news article -I wonder how tough it was to decide to recruit when already employed staff could be made redudant? Cadogan Holidays is making about a tenth of its 55-strong Southampton workforce redundant. The staff in line to go are likely to be new recruits who are still on probation, and employees in back-office roles, said Doug Mathieson, the operator's product and commercial director. Cadogan's forward sales are 10% down on last year, and Mathieson said it had to make cuts to ensure it was 'fit for the future'. 'It is so tough at the moment that, like a lot of people, we are having to cut back a bit. It's not of our choosing but we have to make some tough decisions,' he said. One long-standing member of staff, who asked not to be named, said: 'There have been a lot of tears at Cadogan House. We knew that it was on the cards, but for some it has been a shock.'
