Tourists warned about Bangkok demonstrations

The Foreign and Commonwealth Office has updated its advice for visitors to Thailand in light of major political demonstrations taking place in its capital.

It is warning visitors that the political situation in Thailand remains "very uncertain".

"Major political demonstrations have been taking place in Bangkok, with outbreaks of violence," it said.

"You should continue to exercise caution when travelling around Bangkok and major cities, avoiding any demonstrations or large gatherings of people."

Today, protestors began to gather at Sanam Luang (near the Grand Palace), before marching to Government House.

Reports suggest the demonstration may last for up to three days.

"You are advised to avoid the area during this time. If you plan to visit Thailand you should consider the present situation when making your decision," said the FCO.

"If you are in Thailand you should keep yourself informed of developments, including by regularly checking this advice and the media.
