Earthquake death toll rises to 179

Latest reports say at least 179 people have been killed in the earthquake that hit central Italy yesterday morning.

Tens of thousands of people in L'Aquila and nearby towns have been left homeless after the 6.3-magnitude quake.

About 1,500 people were injured and many more are missing as rescuers search or survivors trapped beneath rubble.
