Greening Australia ... Really?

BRISBANE - Coming back to Australia from Pow Wow Miami, after a wonderful flight with V Australia in Premium Economy, I cleared Customs in Brisbane.

On approaching the inbound Duty Free, I was surprised to see a notice that the shop was going ‘Green" and no plastic bags would be available for your purchase to be carried in.

Very admirable was my first thought, admittedly I was pretty zonked after travelling for around 33 hours.

After making my selection, the checkout girl really caught my attention, "As we no longer use (free) plastic bags, would you like to buy this synthetic carry bag for $1.00"?

Not being an expert on synthetic bags, I commented that the offered bag might have cost them 25-30 cents; and I didn’t think it was a fair deal.

Call me a sceptic if you will, but I really felt that ‘Green’ should be changed to ‘Greed’.

  I agree.... businesses should take the lead with becoming more 'green' without slugging customers...things like bio-degradle bags etc
