Fiji moves quickly to contain flu virus

NADI - Fiji has recorded its first case of the swine flu virus but Tourism Fiji CEO Josefa Tuamoto has reassured the countryââ¬â¢s international visitors that the Fijian government is taking all necessary action to contain the outbreak.

A Fijian national in his late thirties was placed in quarantine upon his arrival at Nadi International Airport from Australia on Saturday evening after showing symptoms of the H1N1 virus.

The man has since tested positive for the virus and is now in supervised isolation.

ââ¬ÅâœFijiââ¬â¢s health authorities have been very quick to react to the situation and our preventative measures as evidenced by this swift action are working extremely well.

ââ¬ÅâœFiji is very much on the case.ââ¬~ Tuamoto said

A spokesman for the Fiji Ministry of Health said the destination was continuing to work closely with UNICEF and the World Health Organisation to manage the spread of H1N1 in the country and there were more than enough resources, including medications, to treat those who might be infected.
