New boss for China specialist

China specialist operator Wendy Wu Tours has confirmed ex-Kuoni sales director Manuel Mascarenhas as managing director following the departure of Laurence Hicks.

Mascarenhas joins following a 30 year travel industry career including spells at British Airways, Thomson and Thomas Cook Signature.

"Wendy Wu Tours has very ambitious growth plans over the next couple of years," he said.

"The all inclusive proposition has huge appeal in our customer sector and relevance in the current climate.

"Our core strength is China and will always be, but we will continue to add new destinations, Indochina being the most recent.

"What is exciting is the prospect of developing the special interest groups market and being creative with our product offering.

"None of this growth will be possible without the support of the UK travel trade and we will invest in building and nurturing closer, long term relationships with travel agents."

  • What is Wendy Wu's USP now?

Lawrence Hicks spent very little time at the helm and during this time Wendy Wu discounted many tours to China. It seems that the brand lost some lustre as it used to be a high end brand. What is the plan now, will it be to go back to the top end of the market or expand into mass tourism?
