The most beautiful capital in the US? Residents of Juneau, Alaska, say the honor is theirs, and "they have a strong argument," points out The New York Times.
Juneau is inside the Tongass National Forest, which is part of the world’s largest temperate rain forest.
The city has glaciers and snow-capped mountains looming overhead. Wildlife includes whale watching.
The town also offers Gold-Rush-era buildings, art galleries, talented regional theatre and fresh seafood
Things to do here:
o Hike the Richard Marriott trail, which has a rich variety of plant and animal life.
o Try the fresh dish at Hangar on the Wharf Pub & Grill, known for not only its food but its dazzling mountain views.
o Take in one of several whale-watching tours.
o Eat Mexican food at the Triangle Club, where a well-known local beer is brewed.
o Stroll through the Alaska State Museum which goes back to the days when the state was a Russian colony.
o Visit one of the many independent bookstores, three of which are located in downtown.
