Bonington Treks follows in mountaineer's footsteps

The son of legendary British mountaineer Sir Chris Bonington has launched a tour operator offering treks that follow in his father’s footsteps and others that even include the great adventurer.

Bonington Treks has been set up by Joe Bonington, a Sydney-based sports strength and conditioning coach who is a seasoned expedition leader in his own right.
Bonington Treks will offer four expeditions to Everest Base Camp in 2010, following in the footsteps of Sir Chris. Trekkers will visit the family home of Pertemba Sherpa, who accompanied Sir Chris on his famous 1975 trek up the south-west face of Everest. The trip costs £1,995 per person, including accommodation.
Next year, Sir Chris will accompany a trek to Annapurna, the series of peaks in the Himalayas, to mark the 50th anniversary of his first ascent of Annapurna II and the 40th anniversary of his ascent of the south face of Annapurna I.
Joe Bonington said he was keen to work with UK travel agents who were interested in selling these adventures.
"Our treks are unique because we can draw on our incredible family experience to put together the ultimate adventures," he said. "As well as giving people the opportunity to enjoy the culture of the countries we visit, our treks take a little longer than most because we give people more time to acclimatise so that they have a more enjoyable experience."
Interested travel agents can contact Joe at info@boningtontreks.com
