Gatwick sale Ã¢â¬Ëœopens up competitionÃ¢â¬â¢ - Cheapflights

Cheapflights global sales director Francesca Ecsery welcomed the news of Global Infrastructure Partners’ (GIP) purchase of Gatwick.

"GIP has done a fantastic job with London City Airport, helping to make it one of the most efficient and customer-friendly airports in the UK," she said.

"Gatwick is the busiest single runway airport in the world and consumers have long waited for improvements to their experience when flying from there.

"In recent years, BAA has turned Gatwick into a shopping mall and consumers deserve to start their holiday in a relaxed environment. Gatwickneeds investment in buildings and facilities to ensure the airport provides passengers with an improved arrival and departure experience.

"GIP’s purchase now provides the prospect of a welcome and much improved transition through the airport."

"By selling Gatwick, BAA is opening up competition in the South East. Having Britain’s two busiest airports owned by separate interests is a good thing for consumers.

"We now hope to see GIP invest in improvements to London Gatwick which will aid consumers’ ‘end to end’ experience of flying via the airport."
