More travel agencies and tour operators have closed than most other retailers on the high street this year, according to a new survey.
Retail and leisure data aggregator The Local Data Company studied a quarter of a million businesses up and down the country and discovered that in 2009 10% of them shut down.
During that period, 13.2% of travel agencies and tour operators in the study closed. The survey does not show how many travel companies in total were part of the survey.

I would like to see the sample within the survey, as this does not accurately reflect what is happening within the travel industry. Yes it has been a tough year, with some unfortunate casualties but nowhere near the percentage described in this article. The travel industry is proving, yet again, to be very resilient John McEwan Advantage Travel Centres

This is quite a big statistic for the travel industry - so maybe the Local Data Company could tell us how many travel companies were involved in the survey?
