New transatlantic flights planned

 

 
 
Low cost carrier Iceland Express is to fly to New York, Akureyri, Birmingham and Stansted by next summer.
 
The airline will serve a record 25 destinations during summer 2010 with the additional routes.
 
Iceland Express re-commenced flights between Stansted and Reykjavik this month with a twice weekly Monday and Friday service.  
 
Flights from Reykjavik’s Keflavik International Airport to New York Newark International Airport will run four times a week from June 1 next year.
 
A weekly connection between Birmingham and Keflavik will start the same month together with weekly flights between Gatwick and Iceland’s second city - Akureyri.
 
CEO Matthias Imsland said: "We are especially delighted to be going transatlantic and hope our new service will entice more consumers to fly with us, whether they want to discover the glacial beauty and vibrant culture of Iceland or take a low-cost trip to New York."
