A380 ââ¬Ëœanswer to crowded airportsââ¬â¢

Emirates president Tim Clark has extolled the virtues of the Airbus A38O super jumbo as a 'great crowd-puller'

Speaking at World Travel Market, he said the double deck aircraft was the answer for capacity constrained airports such as Heathrow.

Predicting a pick up in international travel, Clark said: "The sort of thing to do in places like Heathrow is to go with bigger aircraft. It will relieve pressure on those airports."

He described the A38O as being more fuel efficient than expected and "hugely profitable".

Clark added: "The faster you fly it, the less fuel it burns."
Emirates currently has five of the aircraft in its fleet operating 16 hours a day and 9O per cent full.

All very well for Emirates to say; but they are an interested party here, with a vested interest. We will therefore take these pronouncements with a proverbial pinch of salt. I believe that the A380 will be a dismal failure, not to be confused with its technological quality or otherwise. There are not enough critical numbers coming in the world to warrant the behemoth.
