Kimber departs from rail operator

Steve Kimber is leaving the Great Rail Journeys parent company Amber Travel Partnership.

A statement said the former Cresta Holidays boss was going by mutual consent after four years.

He is to retain an interest in the business.

Kimber joined the company, which at the time comprised Inntravel and Great Rail Journeys, when it was bought from its previous owners by Primary Capital. Inntravel was subsequently sold to Hotelplan last year.

He said: "After four years working away from home, the directors and I have agreed it is time for a change.

"I have really enjoyed the challenge at Amber during which time we have successfully developed and sold Inntravel and doubled the size of Great Rail Journeys.

"The business has come strongly through the recession and is in great shape for the future, with bookings for 2010 already 30% up on prior year. I am sure the business will go from strength to strength and wish them every success in the future."

Group chairman Graham Wilson said: "We thank Steve for his hard work and contribution since the MBO. He leaves with the business well positioned for 2010 and beyond and we wish him all the best for the future."

The business, which will continue to be managed by the chairman and five executives, will seek a replacement for Kimber "in due course".
