SYDNEY - United Airlines flight UA839 carried 55 children and carers from Autism Spectrum Australia - the nationââ¬â¢s largest not-for profit autism specific service provider - on a Christmas Fantasy Flight from Sydney on Tuesday.
Chris Petty, UA sales manager Australia and New Zealand, said the airline was privileged to support Autism Spectrum Australia.
ââ¬ÅâChildren with autism usually love and are fascinated by anything to do with transport and it is a common teaching technique to use objects that the children are interested in as a learning tool.
ââ¬ÅâHaving the capacity to provide these children with an exciting and stimulating experience is a very rewarding way in which United can give back to the community in which we operate,ââ¬~ Petty said.
Upon arrival in Melbourne, the children and their carers were treated to a tea party, hosted by Bob the Builder and with an appearance from Father Christmas.
Sarah Pieters of Autism Spectrum Australia said: ââ¬ÅâAt Autism Spectrum Australia we continuously look for ways to build confidence and development within our students and their families.
ââ¬ÅâWe are truly grateful for this opportunity which United Airlines, their staff and their suppliers have made possible.ââ¬~
United Airlines staff across all departments including sales, customer service, maintenance, cargo and crew assisted with the trip, including financial support to cover airport taxes and gifts for each child.
