Brrr...winter best time to visit Chicago?

Chicago. The windy city. And in winter, the wind cuts like a knife, but it’s the perfect time to visit, say city tourism officials.

With unique activities that only happen in the winter months, and the lowest rates of the year at hotels, a winter trip to Chicago (January and February) is fun and affordable," say officials of the Visitor information Center.

Hotel rates? As low as $79 a night, including parking.

Winter events include family free nights, free museum days and award-winning theatrical performances.

Events include:

---Free ice skating lessons for all ages at the downtown millennium Park.

---Snow sculpting and dog sled demonstrations are among free events at "Snow Days Chicago" in late January in Grant Park.

---The world-famous, 102-year-old Chicago Auto Show returns to McCormick Place in February with 1,000 vehicles, including experimental cars and antiques.
