Brits abroad won't holiday without the web

Almost all of the respondents in a survey conducted by broadband comparison site Broadband Expert says they plan to access the internet whilst abroad.

A whopping 94% of the 842 people asked said they couldn’t bear to be without social network sites like Facebook and Twitter and their email accounts.

Just under half (47%) said they would use their mobile phone to access the web while away. This is double the amount that said they would do so two years ago when the broadband site carried out a similar survey.

The survey also showed that 22% of holidaymakers would find an internet café to slake their web lust, 17% will use a laptop and mobile broadband dongle and 8% will use wifi.

Just 6% said they would not look at the internet at all whilst away.

Broadband Expert  commercial director Rob Webber said:  "The growth in popularity of smartphones has made it much easier and more convenient for more consumers to get online while abroad.

"Couple this with the pull of social media networking, and it seems us Brits are keen to stay connected to the Internet even while taking a well deserved break."

He added:  "The fact that just 6% of people say they wouldn’t get online shows that Brits can’t bear to be away from sites like Facebook, Twitter, news sites and email; which have become part of the daily routine for so many of us."
