NEWPORT BEACH, CALIFORNIA --(PR NEWSWIRE)---March 24, 2009— At the opening of the first Green Travel Summit, attended by US and international leaders engaged in Green/Sustainable Tourism, Sustainability Intelligence Ltd (SI) and The Carbon Consultancy (TCC) introduced Summit attendees the most comprehensive suite of specialist products to support travel and tourism stakeholders and consumers to understand travel impacts, manage them and reduce them.

Mr. Charles Kao, Chairman of SI and Green Globe International Vice-Chairman, addressed Summit opening luncheon, shared with his audience key issues the travel and tourism industry will face in the near and far future, as challenges and opportunities. This included a video presentation from the Editor of The Economist and the Head Economist at Deutsche Bank.

The suite of sustainability products and services presented at the Summit, included toolsets and their relevance for travel and tourism. They included:

1. Webservices

The SI/TCC webservice is the basic support tool for online calculators and corporate reporting products, converting travel and energy usage data into carbon emissions. It can be linked to existing travel booking, administration and management systems to deliver carbon emissions impact data at the point of booking or in a post-booking environment. The data from the web-services are used by government, corporate and leisure clients to determine travel impacts.

2. Carbon Friendly Flight

Developed in association with Global Travel Market the flight finder enables users in any country in the world to search for a flight and be given a range of options by price and carbon efficiency. This tool has recently demonstrated that 57% of travellers will opt for a greener choice in aviation if given the choice and will pay 19% over the cheapest option to do so. The flight finder can be used in tandem with Carbon Manager and a lodge card to deliver low cost booking and reporting solutions for small and medium sized businesses.

3. Carbon Manager

Developed in partnership with Sustainability Intelligence, the Carbon Manager provides instant desktop analysis of carbon emissions generated by flight activity, using either excel file uploads or API links. The tool allows for fast conversion of flight and cost data into reports showing top routes, carriers, regional spend and carbon liability. Available for a fraction of the cost of offline analysis it is suited to any analysis of bulk flight activity.

4. Carbon Offset Guide

Many travellers and companies wish to buy offsets and are confused by what they are and what if anything to buy. The carbon offset guide is available in an iframe for websites and gives users the ability to search over 100 global providers to find the units that fit their product criteria. The full website is designed to educate potential purchasers about offsets and the limitations of their role in preventing climate change.
