A British tourist was the victim of a violent attack in the popular Portuguese holiday destination of the Algarve, according to the Sunday Times.
The 30-year-old accountant from Stafford sustained a fractured skill, a broken nose, a fractured eye socket and a broken ear bone when he was hit in the face with a baseball bat as he left a bar in Albufeira, said the newspaper.
Last year, a 21-year-old British holidaymaker died in the Algarve after being found behind a wall with serious head injuries, and a 50-year-old British tourist was murdered by a gang of four.
The Foreign Office said 1.6m British tourists visit Portugal every year and most trips are trouble-free.
