Briton feared dead in Thai nightclub fire

UPDATE: Two foreigners, including one Briton, are believed to be among those killed in a blaze in a disco in the Thai resort of Phuket in the early hours of Friday.

Police said earlier a Japanese tourist and a French tourist had been reported missing from guesthouses in the area and three Thais have been reported missing too.

According to a report in the Phuket News, police have since received report of a missing Briton, who is expected to be named on Sunday.

However, only four bodies have been recovered from the blaze. They were so badly burned in the fire that none have yet been formerly identified.

One of the bodies is believed to be that of a 20-year-old Thai woman who was working as a waitress the Tiger pub and disco on the night of the blaze in the Patong area of Phuket. Friends say they recognise a watch and bracelet she was wearing on the night.

At least 20 other people were injured in the fire, which is believed to have been caused by lightening striking a transformer. Locals said it sounded like a bomb when the device was struck at about 4am.
