Virgin Atlantic is to start selling flights to Russia after signing a codeshare agreement with Transaero Airlines.
The deal will allow Virgin to sell seats on Transaero's flights from London to Moscow, starting from September, and Transaero will sell Virgin's flights to Los Angeles, San Francisco, Boston and Orlando.
Transaero was given two of the 14 pairs of slots British Airways was forced to give up following its takeover of BMI earlier this year. Virgin is bidding for the remaining 12 pairs.
Earlier this week Virgin revealed it would go into head to head competition with BA on domestic routes for the first time with plans to launch flights between Heathrow and Manchester next March.
