New luxury river cruise in Myanmar

A new luxury river cruise company, Strand Cruise, will start operations in January 2016.

The cruises, on Myanmar's Ayeyarwady River, are being operated by the people behind the Strand Hotel in Yangon.

The boats will have 27 cabin suites with floor to ceiling Juliette balconies with opening windows, butler service, and gourmet a la carte cuisine.

Passengers booking one of the two Strand Suites, at the front of the ship will have external terrace areas and other added extras, including a one-hour spa treatment, a night at The Strand Hotel before of after the cruise, and private airport transfers between The Strand Cruise and the airport.

The cruise operators have been able to negotiate access to private jetties, dramatically reducing the time spent on land transportation transferring between onshore tours.

Highlights include an exclusive mooring overnight at Ava allowing passengers access to the temple of Maha Aungmye Bonzan after the crowds have left.

The Strand Cruise will start its regular schedule of three- and four-night sailings between Bagan and Mandalay in early January 2016.

The lead in low season price for the three-night journey between Mandalay and Bagan is from US$1,782 per person based on double occupancy.

The lead in low season price for the four-night journey between Bagan and Mandalay is from US$1,976 per person based on double occupancy.

There is a special launch offer available for sailings from January to March 2016 of 20% off the high season rate.
