Monarch reports sharp rise in mobile bookings over Christmas

Monarch has reported a sharp rise in mobile bookings over the festive period.

It said mobile bookings made on Christmas Day were up 176% year-on-year and 206% year-on-year for Boxing Day bookings.

Over these two days traffic was up 44% from last year's figures.

The airline's newly-developed Android app is now available to download with the new iOS app due to be launched in early 2017.

"Removing barriers like credit card fees has had a very positive impact on sales over the festive period and customers now feel more confident booking on their mobile than ever before," said Rob Foulkes, senior marketing and digital manager at Monarch.

"Customers are nearly three times as likely to book on mobile compared to last year with transactions up almost 300%.

Monarch believes the drop in temperature over the festive break is prompting many customers booking last minute getaways to the sun.

The winter sun destinations of Tenerife, Malaga and Faro were the most popular bookings over Christmas Day and Boxing Day.
