Inle Lake resort first in Myanmar to gain Travelife recognition
Myanmar's VILLA INLE has gained landmark recognition for its sustainability practices with Gold Certification from international rating system Travelife.
It is a coup for the hotel as the first ever in Myanmar to be officially credited for responsibly managing its socio-economic and environmental impacts.
The Travelife auditing system involves 163 sustainability criteria, including environmental issues, such as energy efficiency, waste and water, and social policies for employee welfare, collaboration the local communities and child protection.
It also assesses how local traditions and wildlife are protected.
"Inle Lake is an extremely fragile eco-system in dire need of protection. Our hotel, which is fully dependent on the lake, decided to become a Travelife member to develop our sustainability policy with a systematic approach. We are delighted to be the first ever hotel in Myanmar to achieve this certification," said general manager Aung KoKo.
"With our continued commitment, we will work to spread our message to other hoteliers in order to sustain and protect this fragile ecosystem."
A two-time recipient of TripAdvisor's Certificate of Excellence, VILLA INLE Resort & Spa features 27 villas on the eastern shore of Inle Lake.
It also has a restaurant and bar, a spa, business centre and outdoor pool.
"Congratulations to VILLA INLE on their recent certification; we are delighted to have our first Travelife Gold hotel in Myanmar," said Sören Stöber, Travelife commercial director.
