London airport express tickets go on sale at Edinburgh

Scottish passengers flying to one of the four London airports can now book express rail tickets in and out of the UK capital at Edinburgh Airport.

Gatwick Express, Heathrow Express, Stansted Express and Luton Thameslink have begun operating their first joint sales venture at Edinburgh airport.

The initiative is part of a move to encourage more flyers from Scotland to use trains in and out of Stansted, Gatwick, Heathrow and Luton rather than take taxis.

The Edinburgh-London flight path is the busiest air route in the country, flying just under 3 million passengers per year on 456 flights per week.

Edinburgh Airport chief executive Gordon Dewar said: "The Edinburgh-London flight routes are a vitally important economic artery for Scotland and the rest of the UK and this new service will strengthen that.

"To now have the option of purchasing express rail tickets into central London here at Edinburgh Airport will make a London arrival all the smoother and is bound to be a popular service."
