Allergic passenger booted from United Airlines flight because of cat


Yet another passenger has come forward with a story to tell regarding a removal from a United Airlines flight.
Donna Wiegel told NBC she was ejected from a plane because of a cat.
She has a 'lot of respiratory problems and asthma' and should steer clear of cats 'at all costs.'
On seeing the feline sat a few seats away she said: "Oh, that is way too close.'"
She alerted cabin crew and was told she could swap seats with someone sat the back of the plane but decided the cat and its owner should be the ones to move.
At that point she was asked to leave the plane, and was 'perp-walked' down the aisle.
"You know, I'm hyperventilating at this point," she told NBC, "almost in a full blown asthma attack."
The incident took place in early March at Baltimore Airport and after an initial online complaint to the airline, did not receive a reply.
The airline told NBC it had since apologized to Wiegel.

    Sounds like someone who wanted her 15 minutes of fame or free air tickets. Many people have "allergies" or other health problems but that only means they should be responsible for their condition, not the rest of the world to coddle them. I can't believe that she had the audacity to want the pet and it's owner relocated. Obviously she's very self-centered and contacting NBC for publicity only proves it.

  • Human life takes precedence over any animal on any flight

    This has gone too far. The airlines need to make certain flights designated "animal permitted" flights and/or "animal free" flights and indicate each and every flight so this issue does not have to take place and especially so ignorant people who have no clue about the threat of breathing disorders and/or allergies to animal don't have to post ridiculous comments that the "cat" was paid for. There are many children allergic to animals as well as adults and this is a serious matter that needs to be seriously addressed and promptly. I too am allergic and was a victim of this disgusting behavior on a flight years ago. I was asked to move my seat to the back of the plane and that the animal should not have to move because the animal was paid for! Imagine? I paid a lot more than that animal paid and I had to be treated with such disdain from the flight attendant as well. I have since made inquiries for every flight I book but there is absolutely no guarantee that an animal will be on board literally the last minute. I was recently on a flight with 4-5 animals - outrageous! I carry an Epipen but who wants to use that and possibly have an emergency in the air! I'm sorry...animals take 2nd place and/or a backseat (pun intended) to human passengers. To appease everyone, the solution is designated flights so allergic humans can travel safely! Seems like a no-brainer to me.

  • Humans should take priority over pets on planes (except handicap aid animals).

    A paying human passenger should not have to suffer the effects of a pet that has been given the privilege of riding on an airplane, regardless of price paid. I, too, suffer from allergies, and it is a crap shoot to know that there is an animal near your seat. I actually smelled that there was an animal nearby and began reacting to it. A few people were willing to switch with me, but I was close enough to watch the people take out and play with their small dog, even though I am told that is forbidden when you bring a pet on board.

  • She SHOULD have been removed!

    SHE was the one having the problem and should have MOVED. The person with the cat, who BTW PAID EXTRA to have it onboard rather than in cargo hold, paid for those tickets and should NOT have had to move. When booking flights and seat assignments, one does not know who or what they'll be sitting next to or around. It's a cr@p shoot. She was removed because the pilot and crew would/could not take a chance knowing they'd have a medical emergency in the air if she was as "seriously allergic" as she contended. There was no legitimate reason to re-seat or even remove the cat person. This allergic lady should have had a rescue inhaler with her especially if her asthma is that bad. I'm sure her hyperventilation over not having her way exacerbated her medical condition as well.
