Caribbean airline added to EU blacklist

Caribbean carrier Mustique Airways has been placed on the EU list of banned airlines after it failed to meet international safety standards.

The airline, which operates private charter and scheduled flights throughout the Caribbean, is based in St Vincent and the Grenadines.

The EU said its Air Safety List 'seeks to ensure the highest level of air safety for European citizens'.

Airlines placed on the list are subject to an operating ban or operational restrictions within the European Union.

Air Zimbabwe, Urga of the Ukraine and Med-View in Nigeria were also recently added to the list of banned carriers.

However, all airlines certified in Benin and Mozambique were removed.

Following the recent update, a total of 181 airlines are banned from EU skies.

  • Goodness me!

Last time I flew with Mustique Airways they operated Britten Norman Islanders - they now have some Twin Otters and some Merlyn Commanders. Not sure that an EU ban will much hurt their plans to fly Transatlantic (but will at least stop them flying into Martinique)!!
