BTA sponsor profile: Opodo

This year will be third year that online travel agent Opodo.co.uk has been a sponsor of the British Travel Awards. TravelMole spoke to the company's head of consumer communications Maryline Morini.

How did you become aware of the opportunity to sponsor the BTAs?
I would say that they really came to my notice in 2012, when I moved to London from Australia. Since then, there's been a significant growth in popularity of the awards, with more and more consumers voting for their favourite travel companies each year.

Have you taken advantage of brand awareness opportunities?
We get great brand awareness in affiliation with the BTAs and we also value the additional exposure we receive by offering a prize to incentivise consumers to vote. This year we have partnered with British Airways to give one voter the chance to win over £3000 worth of airfares to fly to their choice of two BA destinations (one in Europe and one long-haul) with a friend.
We also share news on BTA Connect and our logo appears on the website.

Do you think the association with the BTA's has heightened the company's profile in the industry / with consumers?
Yes, the BTAs have certainly helped us to show British travellers why we are the Best Flight Booking Website - our accolade for two consecutive years in the awards!

Tell us about the actual Awards night - what do you like about it?
The BTA awards night, and other surrounding networking opportunities, are definitely a great way to mingle with key industry people.
The awards gala is always a fantastic show. My favourite part of the night is when everyone gets up to dance to celebrate the winners! It's a great atmosphere, and always a good party.

Are you pleased with the ROI the sponsorship has brought - would you say it's good value for money?
We are very pleased each year we sponsor the BTAs and it keeps getting better in terms of the level of exposure we get and the number of voters the awards attract each year.
