Illinois Office of Tourism Creates Illinois Made Trip Ideas

The Illinois Office of Tourism has expanded its successful Illinois Made programme of creators, artisans and small businesses who help drive tourism to Chicago and across the state and created four Illinois Made trip ideas that agents can use to help sell the state. These shine a spotlight on truly local experience visitors can't find anywhere else.

These travel ideas encourage visitors to extend their trips and explore additional local businesses and attractions nearby . From craft brewers to canoe makers and wineries, Illinois Made celebrates the makers who help craft Illinois by hand, inspiring visitors to discover more about the state by experiencing first-hand the passion that makes it thrive.

The trip ideas, which shine a spotlight on truly local experience visitors can't find anywhere else, include:

Illinois Made on Route 66: Cruise the state's iconic Mother Road to experience Illinois' best and eccentric experiences. Taste classic Illinois Made flavours and explore hidden gems along the way. Take a break from your Mother Road meanderings for a pint at one of Illinois' independently owned microbreweries, Obed and Isaac's Microbrewery and Eatery.

Illinois Made Outdoor Adventures: Witness the natural wonders of Illinois state parks from Peoria and Utica to scenic bike trails in Alton and the Garden of the Gods at Shawnee National Forest. Finish your adventures on one of America's greatest rivers - the Mighty Mississippi. Stop by Navarro Canoe Co. for one of their expertly crafted and world-renowned handmade canoes and take it for the ultimate test ride.

Illinois Made in Chicago: Discover the hottest local artisans and hangouts in Chicago's diverse neighbourhoods including Pilsen, Logan Square, and Wicker Park. Revolution Brewing is the largest independent brewery in the state and it produces dozens of beer styles including IPAs, porters, pilsners, Belgian-style, pale ales and barrel-aged beers.

Illinois Made Local Flavors: Taste your way through Springfield, Alton, and Southern Illinois through local wineries, craft brewers and hand-picked coffee spots and neighborhood restaurants. Family-owned Alto Vineyards in Alto Pass produces some of the finest wine in Illinois. They're also the founding vineyard in the region, and the start of the Shawnee Hills Wine Trail.

Cory Jobe, Director of the Illinois Office of Tourism, comments: "The Illinois Made programme, which now consists of 76 makers and is quickly growing, helps to attract new visitors to explore our state, both domestically and internationally, while supporting local businesses and generating important tourism spending for our communities."
