Viking Cruises rethinks name for fifth ocean ship

Viking Cruises' fifth ocean ship is getting a change of moniker.

The 930-passenger ship, which was recently floated out, will now be called Viking Orion.

The line previously announced it would be named the Viking Spirit.

Keeping with the interstellar theme, Viking says former astronaut Anna Fisher will be the ship's godmother.

Fisher was part of NASA's Orion exploration project.

"The spirit of exploration is at the heart of everything we do, and so I am especially proud that an astronaut will be honoured as godmother to our new ship. Dr. Fisher is a past Viking guest, a fellow scientist and a true explorer," said Viking CEO Torstein Hagen.

Viking Orion will begin sailing in the Mediterranean from next summer.

The line's forth ocean vessel, the Viking Sun, is expected to debut next month.
