Latest snow report

Conditions in Europe are excellent for this time of year now storm Karl, which provided near blanket snow coverage across the Alps, is moving off, though clouds are lingering in places.

Many resorts, especially those in the Austrian glaciers, have vast quantities of fresh snow. Even more is expected at the weekend, primarily on the northern Alpine ridge.

The three resorts with the most snowfall, based on current weather forecasts, are Whistler in Canada, Timberline in the US and Lech in Austria.

Here is the latest detailed snow report from the Ski Club of Great Britain.

AUSTRIA
Many of the Austrian glacial resorts received the lion's share of recent snowfall, significantly increasing already substantial snow depths, including Solden (180cm) which received over 60cm of fresh snow, and Hintertux (75/105cm), which is operating 17 out of 20 lifts on 39km of fresh piste.

Ongoing cloud cover may provide localised snowfall over the coming days, heaviest on Sunday with over 10cm in places, eventually giving way to sunny skies from Tuesday onwards.

FRANCE
Conditions in Tignes (10/40cm) continue to show notable improvement thanks to recent snowfall, though skiing is still limited to two pistes on the Grand Motte glacier. Light snowfall is possible over the coming few days, before giving way to sunny skies at the start of the next week.

SWITZERLAND
Conditions in Switzerland are excellent thanks to snow earlier in the week, with several resorts reporting exceptional early snow depths, including Engelberg (10/140cm) boasting a massive early base. Elsewhere, Pontresina (30/40cm) has joined our recently open resorts.

Heading into the weekend, Andermatt (10/110cm) is aiming to open for weekends only beginning the 11th, conditions allowing. More broadly, the Swiss Alps are likely to receive the heaviest snowfalls of the weekend, peaking on the Sunday and heading into the new week, before giving away to a high pressure system on Tuesday.

ITALY
Italy has been blessed with excellent conditions, with Val Senales (20/100cm) enjoying clear skies and exceptional skiing for this time of year, while Cervinia (10/110cm) is experiencing greater cloud cover, still has excellent conditions. Ongoing light snowfall is expected over the weekend, with Cervinia benefitting to the greatest extent.

SCANDANAVIA
Conditions in Ruka (30cm) in Finland continue to be overcast, with artificial and stored snow offering coverage on several runs served by five lifts. Heading into the weekend, the cloud cover is likely to begin offering snow rather than rain, though not great amounts.

US
There is a lot of snow for this time of year. Jackson Hole (66cm/114cm) has record breaking snowfall for this time of year, and conducting avalanche mitigation work, due to the large amount of snow, so they are being cautious about opening the resort. Big Sky (60cm) is forecasting snowfall of up to 60cm in the next two days. A number of resorts will be opening over the next few days. Killington (30cm) opened this week. Keystone will be opening today, and Mount Snow on Saturday.

CANADA
There have been great snow conditions so far in Canada, especially considering how early we are into the season. Panorama (30cm/50cm) has reported exceptional snowfall for this time of year. Whistler is forecasting snow for the next seven days, including over 20cms this weekend. The big three resorts in Banff have re-opened this week. Banff Sunshine (52cm), has seen the most snowfall and most recent too. Marmot Basin (50cm), will reopen today.
